14 November 2021 | Today we are going to navigate the Northman 1200 Electric 'Marlin' to Amsterdam! The Northman 1200 Electric is a 100% electric motor yacht and is suitable for 6 people. This electric boat has CE category B, is 12.26 m long, 3.50 m wide and has a shallow draft of 0.70 m. The day before, we had navigated from Heeg to Lemmer in the late afternoon. We found a nice berth place in Lemmer and spent the night there, so the Northman 1200 Electric could recharge and we could start our journey with full batteries.
The next morning, we left Lemmer at 08.00, heading for the Prinses Margrietsluis. We quietly entered the lock and after a few minutes we were on the IJsselmeer. With a constant speed of 8.5 km per hour we set course for Amsterdam! The first waypoint we set out for the ‘Rotterdamse hoek’, course 193 west. The wind is still weak to moderate and there are hardly any waves. After passing the ‘Rotterdamse hoek’ we set course to Lelystad.
It is 11.00 o'clock in the morning and we are boating near Urk, at this moment the Northman 1200 Electric still has 80% battery. During our cruise, we enjoy the view with a nice cup of coffee and tea. The waves increase as soon as we are boating towards Lelystad. The Northman 1200 Electric is stable and holds its course.
At around 1 p.m. we were the third boat to enter the lock at Lelystad. Other captains put their thumbs up because we were entering the lock so quietly. It is a special experience to cruise so quietly with a 12-metre motor yacht. After the lock, we go to the Markermeer and set course for Amsterdam, we still have 65% battery power and are boating at a speed of 10 km per hour.
We approach Amsterdam and enter the last lock of this trip, the ‘Oranje Sluizen’. It is so cool to be boating with the Northman 1200 Electric across the IJ! There are several ferries passing by and the skyline of Amsterdam is beautifully lit. Marina Amsterdam is in sight, where we have reserved a berth.
We are getting a bit hungry and decided to cook something while boating, so we could eat as soon as we got to the marina. We cook on an induction, which is energy-efficient and quick, and dinner is ready in no time. Once we're moored, we still have 23% battery power. We connect the shore power cables to charge the batteries.
